“Pranayama is control of Breath”. “Prana” is Breath or vital energy in the body. On subtle levels, prana represents the pranic energy responsible for life or life force, and “ayama” means control. So Pranayama is “Control of Breath”.
Pranayama Includes Following:- Purak ( Inhale), Rechak(Exhale) and Kumbhak {Retain in Between (after inhale means inner retention) and (after exhale means external retention )} which are suppose to follow either from right nostril or left according to nature. Where Right nostril represent to sun and left represent to moon as we know already that sun is hot and moon is cold by nature.
Siddha Pranayama:- Sidha pranayam are those pranayama which are followed by Paramhansa yogis like Mahaparbhu Ramlalji, Shri Chandermohan ji use to follow. There are several secret breathing techniques which are continue with lineages. So it could be taught only to those who are from lineages.
Ashtanga Pranayama:- According to Patanjali Yog sutra we have three way of breathing practices which are as below.
- Baharyvarti:- After exhale breath hold and count double time as long we inhale.
- Abhyantervarti:- After inhale breath and hold and check how long time we inhaled.
- Stambhvarti:- After either in hale or exhale we have to hold four time as we inhaled the breath.
Gherand Sahimta Pranayam:- According to Gherand Sahimta there are eight type of Kumbhak(Retention) pranayama. in which we can classified easily according to nature like hot, cold, meditative and samadhi level.
- Hot Praynama:- a. Suryabhedi b. Bhastrika
- . Cold Pranayam:- a. Shitli b. Shitkari
- Meditative pranayam:- a. Ujjai b. Bhramri
- Samadhi Pranayam :- a. Murcha b. Kewali
